Adding receipts

Add the expenses to your accounting and enjoy the tax benefits you receive.

Save your receipts and reduce your taxes - How to use a receipt scanner

Every lost receipt is a tax payment wasted. That's why we've made adding receipts so easy that you can do it from your sofa at home or right at the gas station.

With Truster receipt scanner, you can take a photo of a paper receipt or upload an electronic receipt to your accounting system in seconds.

Remember the golden rule: one receipt per photo.

Don't try to fit a week's worth of receipts into one photo; take a separate photo of each one. This will ensure that your deductions are accepted.

Here's how to add a receipt (in less than a minute):

  1. Open the Menu in the app and select Receipts.
  2. Press the + button in the lower right corner.
  3. Choose whether you want to take a new photo or upload a file from your phone.
  4. Take a photo or select a file.
  5. Press Save.

"Why isn't my receipt immediately marked as accepted?"

Noneed to worry! After saving, the receipt will be placed in a queue where our accountants will review it. We may not approve receipts on the same day, but we guarantee that all receipts will be reviewed and approved in good time before the next VAT or tax return.

What counts as a receipt? (And what doesn't)

In order for the tax authorities to accept the expense as deductible, the receipt must contain certain mandatory information. A blurry photo or just the total amount is not enough.

The acceptable receipt clearly shows:

‍✅Seller's name, address, and business ID

✅ Date of purchase

✅ What was purchased (name of product or service)

✅ Price (separately stated taxable and tax-free amounts)

✅ VAT rate (e.g., 24% or 25.5%)

❌ Warning: A screenshot from online banking is NOT a receipt.

We are constantly asked: "Is a screenshot of an online bank payment sufficient?"

Short answer: No, it is not enough.

Your online bank statement only shows that money has been transferred. It does not show what you have purchased or the VAT portion of the purchase. Without this information, we cannot record the expense in our accounting, which means you will lose the tax benefit. So always ask for the correct receipt!
