The health insurance contribution is a statutory payment that is remitted to Kela via the Tax Administration. This contribution is used to fund benefits such as sick leave benefits and parental leave benefits. In 2026, the health insurance contribution will be 1.91% of wages.
Not all users are required to pay health insurance premiums. Whether you are required to pay depends on whether you are subject to YEL insurance.
If you have not taken the YEL test in the app and your invoicing does not exceed the YEL insurance threshold (€9,423.09 in 2026), no health insurance contribution will be withheld from your pay.
We recommend taking the YEL test in the app so that we can assess your YEL insurance obligation as accurately as possible. The test ensures that your health insurance premium is handled correctly in your situation.
Please note that if your income exceeds the lower limit for YEL insurance, health insurance premiums will be automatically applied. In this case, based on your income, you are generally required to have YEL insurance, and health insurance premiums must be collected in accordance with the law.
