Losing a receipt is annoying, but it's not the end of the world. The Accounting Act allows for the replacement of a receipt if the original cannot be obtained.
Step 1: Request a copy
Before you do anything else, contact the seller. Most stores and online shops can send you a copy of your receipt by email. This is always the best and easiest solution.
Step 2: Conduct your own investigation
If you cannot obtain a copy, you can prepare a free-form report (e.g., a Word or PDF document). It must contain the following information:
- What and when: Date of purchase, product/service, and price.
- From: Seller's name (and preferably business ID).
- Why: How the purchase relates to your business.
- Reason for omission: Honest reason, e.g. "Original receipt lost."
- Signature: Your name and date.
Upload this document to the app to replace the receipt.
Note regarding VAT: Without the original receipt, we cannot deduct the VAT on your purchase. This means that you can deduct the expense from your income, but you will not receive a VAT refund. That is why the original receipt is always worth its weight in gold!
