If you’re a Wolt driver, the internet is full of tips on how to claim everything from your home office coffee maker to dog food on your taxes. However, this isn’t true.
Typically, a courier’s VAT deductions boil down to two things: equipment and service fees.
Tools
If you use a piece of equipment for work, it's an expense.
- Electric bike: Electric bikes take a beating on asphalt. If you need to buy replacement parts or have the bike repaired, those costs are tax-deductible—as long as the bike’s useful life and purchase price meet the criteria for VAT deductibility.
- Phone: This is your most important tool. Both the purchase of a new phone and your monthly phone bills are eligible for a VAT deduction.
Truster's service fee
Yes, our service fee is a VAT-deductible expense. However, we handle this deduction on your behalf in a way that puts money in your pocket right away, rather than later.
Whenyou receive a payment through Truster, we automatically deduct the service fee and VAT before transferring the payment to you. This way, you enjoy the tax benefit immediately. You’ll have more money in your pocket right on the payment date.
Since you have already received the benefit (money) at the time of payment, you will not receive a refund for this from the Tax Administration later. You will see the service fee on your VAT return, but do not expect any further "extra credit" from the tax authorities.
Is the car tax-deductible?
For a car’s expenses to be eligible for a VAT deduction, the car must be used 100% for business purposes. This means that there must be absolutely no personal use of the vehicle. So, you cannot drive home via the grocery store after work, and you cannot use the car for even short trips during your free time. For this reason, most people do not qualify for the VAT deduction.
