Use of substitutes and taxation

Handling taxes when you have a substitute.

Is your substitute working your shift? Here's how to handle billing and taxes correctly

As a Wolt and Foodora entrepreneur, you can use a substitute to help you. However, many people stress unnecessarily: "Will I have to pay taxes on the money earned by my substitute?"

Short answer: No, you don't. When you use Truster's distribution feature, taxes always follow the money.

How it works

Truster automatic. When you split a bill in the app, our system breaks down the total and handles the tax for both parties.

  1. The invoice arrives: Wolt or Foodora sends us information about the amount you have earned.
  2. You share: Open the Truster app, select the invoice, click "Share invoice," and indicate what percentage (%) of it belongs to the substitute.
  3. We'll take care of the rest: Money and taxes will be automatically distributed to the right people.

The two most common situations

Situation A: The substitute worked the entire shift (100%)

You were off duty and a substitute handled the driving. You transfer the entire invoice (100%) to the substitute in the application.

  • For you: $0 income → $0 taxes. The invoice itself is your company's income, and the expense = result 0.
  • For the substitute: The substitute receives the full amount and pays tax on it according to their own tax rate.

Situation B: You did the work together (e.g., 50/50)

We split the shifts in half. You transfer half (50%) of the bill to the substitute.

  • The result: You only pay taxes on the half you kept for yourself. Your substitute pays taxes on their half. Fair and simple.

⚠️ Important tip: Be careful with percentages!

Once you accept the distribution in the app, it is final. So always double-check that the percentage is correct before pressing "Confirm."

  • If the distribution is incorrect, it must be corrected manually in the accounting records.
  • Manually correcting an incorrect distribution is slow and incurs a separate service charge. So do it right the first time and save money!

Summary: Focus on driving (or enjoying your free time). When you use the app's sharing feature, you don't have to worry about your substitute's tax issues. We'll take care of the paperwork.
