Are you wondering about the health insurance contribution shown on your payslip? This is a statutory contribution that we are required to collect in certain situations, but you can also avoid paying it.
What is this fee and why is it charged?
The health insurance contribution (1.91% in 2026) is a payment to the Tax Administration, which Kela uses to fund important benefits such as sickness allowance and parental allowance.
As a billing service, we must follow the tax authorities' instructions: if we do not know for certain whether you have YEL insurance or are required to have it, we must collect this payment as a precautionary measure when paying your salary.
How can I avoid paying?
Ifyour income is low (below the YEL limit), you do not need to pay this.
- Please proceed as follows: Notify us in writing (e.g., in the Messages section of the application) that you are not subject to YEL insurance. After that, we will not charge you for invoices below the threshold.
Please note that if your annual invoicing exceeds the YEL limit (€9,423.09 in 2026), health insurance contributions will automatically be activated as required by law.
